It's not very often i'm able to spend my time speaking about games careers at such an early age, but last week BGI / National Videogame Museum gave me the opportunity to showcase our industry and discuss all the options we have available!
Some insights I took away from Games Careers Week:
🎮 Game Design courses at university level can be very broad, leaving the student unsure on which path to take within the industry. This also leads them to being more of a generalist and with intern roles being focused on specific crafts only leads to more confusion.
🎮 There’s not enough girls taking up computer science. The industry tends to lean on getting girls into the industry at college/university level but more could be done at high school level.
🎮 We spoke to a few games industry researchers on the gap between game courses and what the industry is looking for and I was surprised to hear not many studios work closely with the university to assist with the curriculum.
PS. At high school level the children are now learning python 🤯
