I wanted to share an incredible experience I had at a local cultural event over the weekend, which was an absolute blast! I live in a small Yorkshire town and feel thereās a huge divide between the cultural communities here. Every year they put on an annual show and you can see the divide in person.
This year was DIFFERENT and I wanted to talk about why!
šØ Art & Craft Exhibits: I was amazed by the creativity of our local artists and artisans. Showcasing traditional crafts to contemporary masterpieces, there was something for everyone. I even got the chance to draw a stick man for a local mural! (Just call me Picasso)
š¶ Live Music & Performances: People danced to live music, traditional dance classes took place, and mesmerizing drumming performances including a Sitar were center stage. Overhearing the crowd react positively to the performances filled me with so much Asian pride!
š Delicious Food: As a foodie, I couldn't resist luring my friends into eating foods that were way spicier that their usual pallet. But from the variety of street food delights to gourmet Indian cuisine, their taste buds were in a very hot but flavorful heaven.
š Family-Friendly Fun: This event was perfect for families. It was heartwarming to see kids engaging in interactive workshops, enjoying storytelling sessions, and learning about cultures different from their own.
It's events like these that bring our community closer and remind us of the beauty in our diversity. Representation matters.
Are there any local events you usually attend in your hometowns?
